Anais Nin Quotes

Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country.

We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.

The final lesson a writer learns is that everything can nourish the writer. The dictionary, a new word, a voyage, an encounter, a talk on the street, a book, a phrase learned.

I am an excitable person who only understands life lyrically, musically, in whom feelings are much stronger as reason. I am so thirsty for the marvelous that only the marvelous has power over me. Anything I cannot transform into something marvelous, I let go. Reality doesn’t impress me. I only believe in intoxication, in ecstasy, and when ordinary life shackles me, I escape, one way or another. No more walls.

Our life is composed greatly from dreams, from the unconscious, and they must be brought into connection with action. They must be woven together.

We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations.

You must not fear, hold back, count or be a miser with your thoughts and feelings. It is also true that creation comes from an overflow, so you have to learn to intake, to imbibe, to nourish yourself and not be afraid of fullness. The fullness is like a tidal wave which then carries you, sweeps you into experience and into writing.

I, with a deeper instinct, choose a man who compels my strength, who makes enormous demands on me, who does not doubt my courage or my toughness, who does not believe me naive or innocent, who has the courage to treat me like a woman.

Age does not protect you from love. But love, to some extent, protects you from age.

If you do not breathe through writing, if you do not cry out in writing, or sing in writing, then don’t write, because our culture has no use for it.

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through. Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it. This is a kind of death.

We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.

The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say.

Writing more and more to the sound of music, writing more and more like music. Sitting in my studio tonight, playing record after record, writing, music a stimulant of the highest order, far more potent than wine.

Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.

Anais Nin Quotes on Friendship

What I cannot love, I overlook. Is that real friendship?

I cannot concentrate all my friendship on any single one of my friends because no one is complete enough in himself.

Each friend represents a world in us, a world not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.

Someone told me the delightful story of the crusader who put a chastity belt on his wife and gave the key to his best friend for safekeeping, in case of his death. He had ridden only a few miles away when his friend, riding hard, caught up with him, saying ‘You gave me the wrong key!

Anais Nin Quotes on Travel

We travel, some of us forever, to seek other states, other lives, other souls.

The one who travels like a lover searching for a new passion is suddenly blessed with new eyes, new ears, new senses.

Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country.

Travel is seeking the lost paradise. It is the supreme illusion of love.

Anais Nin Quotes on Writing
My ideas usually come not at my desk writing but in the midst of living.

It is in the movements of emotional crisis that human beings reveal themselves most accurately.

I believe one writes because one has to create a world in which one can live.

I write emotional algebra.

Anais Nin Quotes Henry and June
I’m sick of my own romanticism!

What can I do with my happiness? How can I keep it, conceal it, bury it where I may never lose it? I want to kneel as it falls over me like rain, gather it up with lace and silk, and press it over myself again.

I will always be the virgin-prostitute, the perverse angel, the two-faced sinister and saintly woman.

I want to make my own discoveries……. penetrate the evil which attracts me.

Anais Nin Quotes My Mission
My mission, should I choose to accept it, is to find peace with exactly who and what I am. To take pride in my thoughts, my appearance, my talents, my flaws and to stop this incessant worrying that I can’t be loved as I am.

Anais Nin Quotes Love Never Dies
Love never dies a natural death. It dies because we don’t know how to replenish its source. It dies of blindness and errors and betrayals. It dies of illness and wounds; it dies of weariness, of withering’s, of tarnishing’s.

Anais Nin Quotes on Mermaids
I must be a mermaid, Rango. I have no fear of depths and a great fear of shallow living.

Anais Nin Quotes on Life
I know why families were created with all their imperfections. They humanize you. They are made to make you forget yourself occasionally, so that the beautiful balance of life is not destroyed.

People living deeply have no fear of death.

There is not one big cosmic meaning for all, there is only the meaning we each give to our life, an individual meaning, an individual plot, like an individual novel, a book for each person.

Age does not protect you from love. But love, to some extent, protects you from age.

Inspirational Quotes by Anais Nin

Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country.

You cannot save people. You can only love them.

There is not one big cosmic meaning for all, there is only the meaning we each give to our life, an individual meaning, an individual plot, like an individual novel, a book for each person.

Each friend represents a world in us, a world not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.

Anais Nin Quotes about New Year

I made no resolutions for the New Year. The habit of making plans, of criticizing, sanctioning and molding my life, is too much of a daily event for me.

Anais Nin Quotes on Love

Your eyes make me shy

Each friend represents a world in us, a world not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.
